Brussels is famous for many things not least its chocolate, beer and being the head quarters of the EU. Some say it is only a corporate city with little to recommend it to the tourist but this would be a mistake, you only have to see its magnificent architecture and marvellous array of restaurants and cafés to realise this.

Brussels Attractions

Brussels Photo

Brussels is a city of contrasts and contradictions. It is a highly contemporary city, with the 20th century modernity of the EU glass building, but also one of great heritage seen in the edifice of the Palais de Justice as well as the Art Nouveau and Art Deco museums.

The city is divided in two, the Lower and Upper Towns. The Lower Town is centred around the Grand Place and is home to the medieval centre. The Grand Place is a magnificent square filled with cafés and restaurants and cobbled streets leading to attractions such as Ste Catherine, Ilôt Sacré and Marolles.

The Upper Town, on the other hand is different in atmosphere and aesthetics. It has wide boulevards, many of the larger museums and the up-market shopping areas, including Sablon and Ave Louise as well as the Belgian parliament building and the famous Manneken Pis fountain.
